wpid-wp-1418994454970.jpegI am sorry that I have not blogged in a couple of weeks. I had started a couple, but just have not finished them I guess it is not time to share those thoughts and stories yet. I had a very eventful day yesterday at the shelter, and will share that another time, today I have a special story on my heart.

I have to be careful how I word these entries because I know that some people who stay in our shelter, come to our drop in, or have been around before read them.

Every evening except Sunday pizza is donated to us from a local business, they collect their left over pizza all day, and we pick it up when they close and bring it to the shelter. It is a common occurrence when someone asks if they can come for the drive. Last week I had two people come with me; one from our recovery and the other comes into our drop in. I will be focusing on the individual who comes to drop-in in this story. I am not going to give a name or even express what gender this person is, just in case someone is able to break my code lol.

As we were arriving at the mall we were talking about Christmas, apparently their parent is leaving town for work purposes and will not be taking them along. The person I am talking about is under the age of 20 and has had a hard go at things.

“I might just come stay at the shelter again this year” they said. I do love that we can be a community for people, but it is always sad to hear something like this.

“Why would you come to the shelter?” I asked

“It is better then being alone.” Hearing something likes this hurts my heart. It also makes me so happy that I work where I do.

“We are open all day, you don’t have to stay over night, but just come in the morning and stay all day.”

We live in such a broken society, where the norm is families falling apart. Jesus I pray that you fix these broken families and mend the hurts caused by the enemy.
