Visiting Hitchhiker

I was extremely blessed last week by my brother. Now in order to grasp how amazing this event was you need to know a little about my relationship with my Brother.

My brother is about 10 years older than me, which is a big age difference. My mom had two other children between us, but they both passed away as babies. I cannot even imagine what was going on in my mom’s head. My brother and I have different dads, I have never met my father, but often would go to my brothers dads house on weekends. With such a big age gap my brother and I have never really “clicked”, we are starting to communicate, but it has taken a very long time. We are two very different people, if my brother was standing beside me you would have no idea that we are related.

So now back to my story. It feels like all I do is sit in meetings some days. We recently started a staff training/fellowship time on Tuesday afternoons. Last week when I came out of that meeting one of my faithful volunteers informed me that my brother in-law was here. I really had no idea who he was talking about.

After a little while a man was at our front door. On Tuesday afternoons we are not open, but we allow people to come and use the washroom and get a drink if needed. I did not know much about this man, and when I opened the door he said “Are you ________ brother?”

I said “Yes”

“________ said that you could help me out, I was hitchhiking and he brought me here, said you were the “big” man.”

I would say that this gentleman was in his 60’s maybe older, and he asked if we had any clothing. I brought him into our clothing room and helped him pick out two changes of clothing. We then made him some lunch, but he couldn’t finish it because he had not eaten in so long, but he took it with him anyway. I asked him where he will sleep that night, and he said that he will be fine sleeping outside, because he is not use to an environment like this, and also can become very closter phobic. I was able to convince him to stay that night, and if he didn’t like it he could continue on with his plans.

These unexpected visitors are always such a blessing. I have no idea where he is now, but hope that he is in a safe place.

It was such a blessing to see my brother know that he could drop someone off and know that they are taken care of. I was really blessed by my brothers kind act, I don’t really know why, but maybe its just because of our strained relationship, but it blessed me more than words can describe.

Lord I pray that you lead my brother to you. And I pray that you bless this man who came looking for help, I pray that he finds a safe place to live and that he comes to knowing you as his Savior.
